Week 14-MasterKeyExperience- Launching Rocket and Gold Textured Bathroom
My review of the October Sky movie (and Gold Textured Bathroom-see below) would be the same for the movies I watched and reviewed. They are: The Good Lie, Rudy, Door to Door, Cool Running, and Wild.
All of these movies demonstrated and had in common the 4 Habits of Success:
major burning desire +
positive mental attitude +
definite plan expressed in continuous action +
Description from the 1999 October Sky movie jacket, “As the Soviet satellite Sputnik streaks across the heavens in October 1957, it’s a source of inspiration for 17-year-old Homer Hickam. Drafting a few friends to help, Homer crafts a rocket to compete for a science fair scholarship.”
Homer “Sonny” Hickam, a West Virginia coal miner’s son who was destined to work in the local coal mine like his father, gets inspired to build his own rocket and become a scientist after witnessing the passage of Sputnik I over the United States launched on October 5, 1957.
Everyone else saw just a rocket flying across the sky, but Sonny’s major burning desire saw a possibility that he just had to live out to become reality.
Sonny’s passion and conviction to build a rocket fuels his positive mental attitude ignoring all negative influences no matter the circumstances, and there were many.
His definite plan expressed in continuous action had him obsessed to learn everything about how to build a rocket, along with his chemistry teacher giving him a calculus book toward his learning.
As Sonny’s main mastermind alliance, he recruits his school friends and especially Quentin, an intelligent unpopular geek who partners
with Sonny to build the rocket.
His chemistry teacher gives him unending support and inspires him to enter the rocket in the National Science Fair.
Unfortunately, most of the town and especially Sonny’s father disapproves of his son’s crazy idea. In this town and at this time, an accomplishment such as a high school student building a rocket was unheard of and especially in the backyard. Master Key lesson 12:24 – “The Mind cannot comprehend an entirely new idea until a corresponding vibratory brain cell has been prepared to receive it. This explains why it is so difficult for us to receive or appreciate an entire new idea; we have no brain cell capacity of receiving it; we are therefore incredulous; we do not believe it.”
But different towns’ people start donating material to Sonny’s cause. Despite the obstacles and challenges, magic always seemed to come through. As Sonny progressed and succeeded in areas, his burning desire inspired friends and others in the town to live their dreams.
Finally, despite it all Sonny entered and won first prize at the National Science Fair.
Homer’s actual life accomplishment from his burning desire led him to be a NASA engineer training astronauts for space shuttle missions.
GOLD TEXTURED BATHROOM – 4 Habits of Success
My long time major burning desire was to decorate, not just with plain flat paint but, with textured metallic gold! I have dreamed of this for probably 20 years. I added this dream to my Definite Major Purpose (DMP) and made it a short deadline to finally accomplish my dream. By repeating ‘DO IT NOW’ 25 times every day since September 27, I would not be deterred by the fact that I had never done this type of painting before. I was just being fueled by my passion for a metallic textured wall.
I researched and studied the application. I talked to many friends and people at the paint store. The plan I had envisioned changed when I went to get the material and realized I had gone to the wrong store. But after studying that store’s product, I realized it would be easier than my original plan.
My mastermind alliance was everyone who had supported me with my research along the way and my husband. As a Christmas gift, I asked my husband if he would be my consultant for this project and he gladly agreed.
So on Christmas Day, I started to prep the bathroom, being stopped along the way realizing that I hadn’t ‘visualized’ every little detail. And didn’t anticipate my fear of heights being on the ladder to tape the ceiling. Keep breathing!! But I kept going through each of these obstacles because my burning desire was fueling my long time passion.
Two days later I could put an end date to my goal of painting a metallic textured finish in the front bath!!!
And as you can see it turned out beautiful!!!!
